It’s that time of year again.
New Year’s resolutions are a great way to improve your life and make positive changes.
When the clock strikes midnight on January 1, you’re likely to hear many people declaring their intentions for the coming year. Whether it’s losing weight, getting more exercise, or saving money, most of us want to improve our lives in some way. And there’s no better time than now!
New Year’s resolutions are an excellent way to start fresh with a positive outlook and a clear plan of action. They can help you break bad habits and create new ones that will bring you closer to where you want to be in life.
Here are some New Year’s resolutions you can make to improve your urological health:
#1 Always Hydrate Yourself
Fluid intake is essential for your body to function properly, and this includes the urinary tract. Your kidneys filter excess water and waste products from your blood. When you drink enough fluids, your kidneys are able to remove all of the extra water and nutrients, leaving only pure urine in your bladder.
If you don’t drink enough fluids, your kidneys may not be able to filter out all of the water and nutrients. This can lead to dehydration, which can cause problems such as increased blood pressure or kidney stones. To prevent these issues, make sure you are drinking enough liquids every day.
#2 Kegel Exercise
Kegel exercises are a great way to improve the health of your pelvic floor, which is an important muscle group to strengthen if you want to avoid issues with urination or sex. They’re also good for bladder control, and can help make childbirth easier when you’re pregnant.
To perform Kegel exercises, squeeze your pelvic floor muscles as though you’re trying to stop urinating. Hold the contraction for three seconds, then relax for five seconds before repeating. Do this 10 times every day!
#3 Monitor your pain medication use
Monitoring your use of pain medications is important for your kidney health. Taking certain pain medications both prescription and over the counter has been linked to an increased risk of kidney cancer.
Resolutions can be very effective if you have a specific goal in mind and follow through on it. However, if you don’t have a specific goal or if you don’t stick to your plan for achieving it, then making a resolution may not be worth the effort.
Begin by setting small goals you know you can achieve. If you want to increase your level of physical activity, try setting a goal to go for a ten-minute walk once per week and build on that. Or set a goal to work out five days per week, rather than seven or eight. While these goals may seem small, they may help jumpstart your journey towards good health.
